From funding uncertainty to sustainability

Sector: Survivor Services & Crisis Response

Engagement: Blossom Bundle → Ongoing Perennial Partnership

Safety Compass exists to extend relentless hope and navigational support for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The Challenge

Government funding fueled much of the organization’s growth before Bloom, but leadership knew that relying too heavily on one funding source wasn't sustainable. With more than $1.44 million in government contracts expected to sunset over the coming years, Safety Compass wanted to strengthen its private foundation fundraising before funding gaps emerged. Their goal was to build a resilient fundraising program that could support the organization's mission for years to come.

Our Solution

We partnered with Safety Compass in 2025 to deliver our Blossom Bundle, creating the foundation for a long-term institutional fundraising strategy. Together, we:

  • Identified and qualified 121 high-fit funding opportunities, prioritizing private foundations aligned with the organization's mission and growth goals

  • Developed a strategic 12-month grant calendar to serve as a roadmap for long-term grant planning and funder stewardship

  • Created a proposal language library and funder-friendly documents to streamline future applications

After preparing the foundational tools, our work evolved into our Perennial Partnership, where we continue to provide ongoing grant writing, prospect research, annual planning, and strategic fundraising support.

The Results

In less than two years, Safety Compass has transformed its grant program into a more diversified, proactive fundraising strategy. Here’s what our success has looked like by the numbers:

  • $473,000+ in grant funding secured

  • 121 qualified funding prospects added to the pipeline

  • 80% increase in grant submissions (from 25 proposals in 2025 to 45 in 2026)

  • 10 new private foundation funders secured

  • First-ever multi-year private foundation grant awarded

  • 63 future funding opportunities identified, representing more than $535,000 in potential requests

  • 85% of the annual fundraising goal reached by mid-year 2026

Why It Matters

A strong grant program creates organizational stability. As a result of Bloom’s support, Safety Compass has a healthier mix of public and private funding and a growing network of foundation partners.

Instead of reacting to funding uncertainty, the organization is proactively planning for the future with a stronger, more resilient revenue pipeline. As government contracts evolve, Safety Compass is well positioned to continue providing critical services to survivors while expanding its long-term impact.

Looking Ahead

Our partnership with Safety Compass continues to focus on sustainable growth. Together, we're expanding foundation relationships, strengthening fundraising systems, and building the long-term funding strategy needed to ensure survivors continue receiving the support they deserve for years to come.

"When Safety Compass knew that several government grants were going to be ending, we began searching for a grant consultant to help us strategize about how to diversify our funding to move towards non-governmental sources. Working with Jacquee helped us to create a strategic plan for finding grant prospects, establish a library of content for use in applications, and streamline the process of writing, editing, and submitting proposals. This has made us more efficient and successful than ever before, even in a difficult funding landscape. We are incredibly thankful for Jacquee's knowledge and organization, helping us navigate diversification of funders and grow our portfolio of foundation partnerships."
